Your open rate is very high, or the results appear only a few seconds after you sent your campaign, and you think this is not normal. Please read this article to learn more.
After sending a YAMM campaign, you notice that your emails (few of them, or a lot) are being marked as 'OPENED' on the tracking report, only a few seconds after you started your mail merge.
A very high open rate that happens only a few seconds after a mail merge doesn't necessarily indicate that your campaign is 100% successful.
Multiple reasons can affect the tracking report. The most common reasons are (non-exhaustive list):
Causes | Explanations |
---|---|
Opening your emails from the 'Sent' folder | If you open a lot of emails from your Gmail 'Sent' folder. That will be considered as read. |
Opening bounced messages from your inbox |
As they contain the email you sent, it will be counted as read too. To avoid skewing the results, you can archive them without reading them. |
Your subscribers forwarded your email |
When other recipients opened your emails, this will be recorded by our tracker. Unfortunately, there's no way to prevent this. |
Your cc/bcc recipients opened your email |
As the same email is sent to everyone, we can't differentiate between the primary recipient and the one(s) in copy. Learn more |
Aggressive spam filters |
They opened your emails before they reached your recipients' inbox. Aggressive spam filters will click on links in incoming mail before delivering them to make sure there is no malicious content. Our system automatically tracks clicks as opens, and we have no way of telling the difference when a spam filter makes a click. You can follow our tips to reduce spam issues. |
Your subscribers have a "preview pane" feature enabled |
It can record multiple opens inadvertently. Every time the email is clicked or scrolled to in the preview pane, and the images are downloaded, this will record additional opens. Learn how to turn off the preview pane |
Specific behaviour by an email service provider |
Some email service providers, such as Gmail, are pre-opening the emails they receive, triggering the open detection. Learn more |
