The time it takes to deliver your mail merge is mainly affected by the number of emails to send. This article provides an estimation of the time taken, depending on the number of emails you want to send and explains how the timezone affects the time your mail merge start being sent.
Overview of the time taken to deliver your mail merge
We carried out a survey of a sample of more than 65,000 mail merges that were sent out with YAMM over two weeks.
According to our analysis, about 87% of our users send fewer than 50 emails / 24 hours. This means that to track bigger emailing mail merges (specifically more than 400 emails / 24 hours), we had to take smaller samples of customers, reducing the accuracy of our survey.
Therefore, bear in mind that all the figures that are presented in this article are only estimations and average data. It may indeed take more (or less!) time for some of you to send all your mail merge, so you should tread all our figures cautiously.
Summary of the different execution times of your mail merges
|Number of emails to send||Average execution time|
|0 < X ≤ 50||37 s|
|50 < X ≤ 200||2 min|
|200 < X ≤ 400||7 min|
|400 < X ≤ 800||12 min|
|800 < X ≤ 1200||21 min|
|1200 < X ≤ 1500||32 min|
As you can see, it takes on average less than a minute to send up to 50 emails. For between 50 and 400 emails, YAMM sends your mail merges in less than 10 minutes. This time it takes to deliver your mail merge increases if you send even more: up to half an hour if you send more than 1,200 emails.
The size of your draft doesn't greatly affect the execution time. Whether your draft is 1 KB or 15 MB, the execution time is much the same. For example, if you are planning to send between 1,200 and 1,500 emails, it will take +/- 30 minutes to send either light emails (5 KB) or heavy emails (5 MB).
The important thing that you have to remember when estimating the time it takes to deliver your mail merge is the number of emails you want to send.
Recommendation before sending your mail merge
When you hit the Send emails button in the YAMM interface, a progress bar is displayed and you have to leave your spreadsheet open so the add-on can send all your emails. Therefore, if you are planning to send a large number of emails (more than 1,000 for example), we recommend using our scheduling option to send emails later as you can shut down your computer and YAMM still continues to send your mail merge.
If you send your mail merge right away (without using the scheduling feature) and the estimated time for your mail merge to be delivered is more than 10 minutes, an information dialog appears just after you click Send emails.
Recommendation about the timezone
Usually the timezone of your spreadsheet and your browser are the same. In some cases, it can be different and may affect the time it takes to deliver your mail merge.
If you send your mail merge manually
The timezone of your spreadsheet doesn't impact the time it takes to send your mail merge. As soon as you click Send, YAMM starts sending your emails.
If you schedule your mail merge
The mail merge is sent according to the timezone of your browser (not the timezone of your spreadsheet). To check the timezone of your browser, select Yet Another Mail Merge in the Add-ons menu. Click Start Mail Merge.
Then click the Delay Delivery button. Next to the Delivery time field, you can see your timezone.
